The
Project
BMCC was hired in late 2002 to conduct a gap analysis between CIDAs
communications policy and the new Communications Policy of the Government
of Canada.
The
Goal
The gap analysis covered issues that will help CIDA determine whether
its current activities, policies and procedures meet the requirements
of the new Policy, and identified possible adjustments needed
to ensure compliance.
The
Result
BMCC provided CIDA with a report indicating that the Agencys communications
policies were found to be largely compliant with the new Communications
Policy.
Citizenship
and Immigration Canada
The
Project
In March 2002, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) hired BMCC to
develop emergency handbooks for employees and members of its emergency
response organizations, based on the departments fire safety documents.
The
Goal
BMCC was asked to develop user-friendly, easy-reference handbooks to provide
important lifesaving information to all employees and members of the emergency
response team within CICs three Ottawa buildings.
The
Result
Six separate handbooks were developed within a three to four week timeframe.
BMCC met our clients goals on time and within budget.
Citizenship
and Immigration Canada
The
Project
BMCC has assisted the Department in developing a communications strategy
and products supporting the new Citizenship legislation, tabled in the
House of Commons in October 2002.
The
Goal
The new legislation represents the first major update of the Citizenship
Act in 25 years.
The
Result
This project led to the successful introduction of new Citizenship legislation
that reflects the values and principles of modern Canadian society.
Citizenship
and Immigration Canada
The
Project
French adaptation of various audiovisual presentations for Citizenship
and Immigration Canada (CIC), based on changes made to the Citizenship
Act to reinforce the values of Canadian citizenship.
The
Goal
These presentations were developed to inform the Conseil des ministres
in Quebec of the merits of the modifications to the law, and to obtain
their opinion and comments on the subject.
The
Result
CIC was very pleased with BMCC’s work and has entered into a standing
offer with our firm for future translation projects.
City
of Ottawa
The
Project
The City of Ottawa celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Archives by
organizing a variety of activities and a major exposition.
The
Goal
Among other things, the exposition focussed on the important achievements
of Ottawa citizens, both past and present, highlighting the important
role played by the Ottawa City Archives. BMCC was asked to reviewed the
French-language proofs for panels used in the exposition.
The
Result
BMCC continues to check French proofs for the City, as well as providing
translation and editing services for various other texts.
Environment
Canada
The
Project
In September 2002, Environment Canada hired BMCC to support the launch
of the departments Knowledge in the Service of Canadians
Agenda. Activities included the development of a launch plan,
co-ordination of a national videoconference for managers and staff, and
production of Qs and As, presentational materials and speaking notes for
senior managers.
The
Goal
To engage Environment Canada employees in actively supporting the new
Agenda designed to, ...manage and share knowledge creatively and
encourage innovation to better serve Canadians, now and in the future.
The
Result
Departmental employees across the country witnessed the launch and received
information on how they could personally participate in and benefit from
the new Agenda.
Health
Canada
The
Project
In anticipation of the Precursor Control Guidelines (PCR) coming
into effect in January 2003, BMCC helped the Office of Controlled Substances
to develop plain-language guidelines to help licensed dealers and applicants
understand the PCR.
The
Goal
To develop guidance documents that explain the requirements for dealing
with Class A precursors, including importing, exporting, handling, destroying
or selling these chemicals.
The
Result
BMCC wrote, edited and translated four guidance documents within tight
timeframes, to the satisfaction of our client.
Hostelling
International Canada
The
Project
Hostelling International Canada (HI-C), a member of the International
Youth Hostel Federation, called on BMCC to provide French translation
services for its 2000-2001 annual report.
The
Goal
To provide interested parties—including members of HI-C’s
Board of Directors, regional hostel managers and Members of Parliament—with
a picture of the activities of both HI-C and affiliated hostels.
The
Result
The annual report, distributed in both Official Languages, is used to
provide information and obtain sponsorships. BMCC has since translated
a number of other articles for HI-C.
Industry
Canada
The
Project
In April 2001, Industry Canada launched an Intranet-based pilot project
to follow up on several cultural awareness activities conducted during
the Year of the Francophonie in Canada. Le coin linguistique
was designed to encourage the use of French within the department and
to promote consistent and correct usage of that language.

Project
BMCC worked with Industry Canada (IC) in late 2002 to develop emergency
handbooks for the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and employees
at its CD Howe building.
The
Goal
The department required an update of their current ERO handbook, based
on the newly revised building emergency plan. BMCC was also asked to adapt
the resulting booklet into one aimed at employees.
The
Result
The two handbooks were delivered on time and within budget, giving IC
employees and ERO members an easy-reference handbook.
Passport
Office
The
Project
The Passport Office hired BMCC in spring 2002 to develop a media relations
policy and a crisis communications plan.
The
Goal
BMCC consulted Passport Office senior management to gauge the opinion
of managers on the effectiveness of their media relations program and
to identify opportunities for improvement.
The
Result
Based on the feedback received from the Agencys senior management,
BMCC prepared a report outlining recommendations, from which a media relations
policy was produced. This policy establishes the position of the Passport
Office with respect to media relations, as well as guidelines, roles,
responsibilities and accountabilities for the Agencys media relations
function. A crisis communications plan was also developed. BMCC is currently
preparing a PowerPoint presentation for senior management on the Agencys
Communications Services.
Public
Works and Government Services Canada
The
Project
Each year, Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) publishes
an information kit of its accomplishments.
The
Goal
In addition to the main report of PWGSC accomplishments, the information
kit includes fact sheets on major categories of activity, and a brochure
profiling the department. This brochure informs Parliament, Canadians
and PWGSC clients of the department’s services and solutions.
The
Result
For the past two years, BMCC has provided French adaptation of PWGSC
Accomplishments. As evidence of PWGSC’s satisfaction with our
work, the department has once again retained our services for the translation
of the 2002 edition, currently under development.
